Help! It’s my first visit. Where do I go/what do I do?

Please make sure to arrive 15 minutes early to your first class! The studio is located inside Kiddance Studio (200 2nd St. NE, Carman). The entrance is on the east side of the building. The actual barre studio is in the upstairs of the building however please be aware we do share the reception area with dance students & parents. Upon arrival please remove your shoes at the door and head to the reception desk to check in, where you will sign a waiver form and an instructor will get you set up.

Is this similar to a dance class? Do I need dance experience?

Barre is not a dance class, and you do not need any dance, pilates, yoga, or fitness experience at all to participate. While the workouts are choreographed to the music, there is no actual dancing involved.

What do I wear?

Any type of active or yoga wear is appropriate. We do recommend having your legs completely covered, in order to keep your muscles warm. Grip Socks are mandatory in Carman Barre classes to prevent injury. Feel free to bring your own, or purchase some at the studio.

What do I need to bring?

Please bring a yoga mat, bottle of water, and a towel is optional. All other workout equipment is supplied (weights, exercise balls, tubes). For your convenience, you may store your yoga mat at the studio!

I’m recovering from an injury. Can I still take Barre?

Yes – Barre is a great way to keep fit and active while recovering from an injury with its low-impact method, and instructors can suggest modifications specific to your condition. However you must consult with your doctor before participating.

I’m pregnant. Can I still take Barre?

Yes – Barre is an excellent pre (and post) natal workout. We recommend refraining from doing any of our core exercises after the first trimester, and you must consult with your doctor before participating.

Why do my muscles shake?

Shaking or trembling means you’re doing the move correctly. It comes from Barre’s isometric movements that target small muscles, exhausting them to the point of fatigue. Don’t fight the shake – it’s sculpting you some long lean muscles!

I’m nervous about a group fitness class.

We understand group fitness classes can be intimidating. At The Carman Barre we welcome new and inexperienced clients to become part of our barre squad – regardless of age, shape, size, or fitness level. Our community will empower you as we work toward a common goal of bettering ourselves, and once that first class is under your belt we promise you’ll be craving more of the burn & shake!
